ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Baitul Mal (PBM) has set up its first ever Shelter Home for the transgender community.

Managing Director PBM Amir Fida Paracha inaugurated the shelter home in Tarlai at a simple ceremony. Director General Ministry of Human Rights Mohammad Arshad and other officers were also present.

Speaking at the ceremony, the PBM head said: “We are determined to explore every possible solution to mitigate the problems of the vulnerable community of the country.”

He said the shelter home was a joint initiative of the ministry of human rights and Baitul Mal in order to fulfill the needs of the deprived transgender community in a protected and hygienic environment.

Further explaining the PBM’s initiatives for medical treatment and rehabilitation of indigent persons including transgender community, the chief of the social safety net said the step would serve the vulnerable, social outcasts transgender persons with temporary night stay, breakfast and dinner in respectable, neat and clean atmosphere.

The initiative has been launched as a pilot project with the capacity of 10 transgender persons and the PBM plans to further expand after its successful operation and its impact evaluation report.
