Published January 25, 2023

POWER DISRUPTION: The latest power breakdown that lasted several hours and disrupted life in major cities is alarming as it affected 206 grid stations and more than 2,100 feeders across

the country. The administrative incompetence needs to be fully exposed, and facts behind the massive disruption should be made public. Such breakdowns are no more rare in our context. Why are no preventive measures in place?

WINTER VACATIONS: For the last three years, we have been having harsh winters in Karachi probably owing to the climate change phenomenon. The month of January happens to be much cooler than December. However, the winter vacations in schools continue to be in December. Students, especially young, suffer from weather-related ailments as they have to get up early in the morning for their schools. It would be practical if the vacations may be rescheduled according to the weather.

BOGUS DOMICILES: Among other things that affect life in Balochsitan, bogus domiciles are rarely mentioned. Parents send their children to other cities for higher education, spending their hard-earned money for their future. But they feel disheartened when their children do not get even a ‘below-par’ job. This happens simply because of bogus domiciles and those in possession of such fake documents occupy government jobs. The illegal practice needs to be stopped.

FORGOTTEN VICTIMS: Last month, a cylinder exploded in a shop in Bela, resulting in a huge fire that killed 19 people. No assistance has been provided to the victims and their families. Most of the critically injured were shifted to Karachi where they are facing financial problems. The govern- ment must come to their assistance.
