OKARA: The district police have completed the first phase of installation of CCTV cameras and fixed 318 cameras with zoom-in and zoom-out technology at Dipalpur and its adjacent rural localities.

The main control room has been set up at Diplapur city police station to back up the security system.

District Police Officer Muhammad Furqan Bilal inaugurated the system at Dipalpur city police station and said the police were responsible for the security of life and property of the citizens.

He said: “The police are available round the clock and will try its utmost to control crime in the area.”

On this occasion, the representatives of various segments of the society appreciated the move and extended its cooperation to police for the safety of public at large.

KIDNAP CASE: Saddar police registered a case of kidnap of an 11-year-old boy who went missing some six weeks ago.

As per the first information report, complainant [a physically challenged woman Saleem Bashir] said six weeks back her minor son Talha Zahid had gone missing on way to home at village 53/2L from his workplace.

The case has been registered under section 363 of the Pakistan Penal Code against unidentified suspects.

NEW VC: Prof Dr Sajid Rashid, the head of the Geosciences Faculty at the Punjab University, was appointed vice chancellor of the University of Okara.

Prof Rashid held a number of prominent academic and executive posts at the PU after receiving his PhD from the University of Windsor in Canada. His scholarly accomplishments and several national and international accolades speak for themselves.

On his first day at the University of Okara, he addressed the faculty and the administrative staff. He commended his predecessors, Prof Dr Zakria Zakar and Prof Dr Muhammad Wajid, for improving the academic infrastructure of the institution and committed to uphold their policies while in office.
