LOWER DIR: Two persons received burns when a fire broke out in a house due to gas leak in Munda area here on Friday, local residents said.

They said Rescue 1122 firefighters reached the spot and put out the flames but not before the household items were reduced to ashes. A rescue emergency team shifted the injured, indentified as Sher Ali Jan and his son, Zeeshan to a local hospital.

The residents said Sher Ali worked as a driver in a private educational institution.

Munda tehsil council chairman Haji Inayatullah along with PTI tehsil president Ubaidur Rehman visited the victims’ family, and demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to help the family rebuild the house.

ELECTIONS: The All Pakistan Universities Basic Pay Scale Teachers Association (APUBTA) elected Dr Samiur Rahman from the University of Malakand as its central president and Dr Imtiaz Ahmad general secretary for the next term, according to statement issued on Friday.

Other office-bearers included Dr Hafsa Jamshed from National Textile University, Faisalabad, as vice-president, Dr Rehana Kausar from AJK University vice-president, Dr Jawad Khan from Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan, joint secretary, Dr M Asif Jan from Kohat University finance secretary and Dr Manzoor Ahmed from International Islamic University, Islamabad, as media secretary.

The elections were conducted online and a notification was issued after completion of the phased-wise process, which got underway in November 2022.

Earlier, the election of the provincial leadership of APUBTA and members of AJK, Punjab, KP, Sindh, GB and Balochistan cabinets had also been completed.

It merits a mention that university teachers have been divided into two groups of teachers working in basic pay scale and on tenure track system.
