THIS is with reference to the report ‘Veteran journalist Khalid Ali passes away’ (Nov 30). There are some factual errors that need to be corrected in order to set the record straight.

According to the report, Khalid Ali and former PTV journalist Zubair Ali “were the grandsons of the legendary freedom fighters Maulana Mohammad Ali and Shaukat Ali”. The fact is that Khalid Ali was the grandson of Shaukat Ali, which made him a grandnephew of Mohammad Ali. Besides, Zubair Ali was grandson of neither of them.

Khalid Ali’s mother Azra Begum was the daughter of Shaukat Ali, and his father Usman Ali was the grandson of Asghar Ali, an uncle of Shaukat Ali. As regards Zubair Ali, his mother Zahida Begum was the great-granddaughter of Asghar Ali, while the father was from outside the family.

The only grandsons Maulana Moha-mmad Ali had were Tariq Ali, son of his eldest daughter Zohra, and Umar Qureshi and Khalid Qureshi, sons of his youngest daughter Gulnar. His middle daughters Amna and Hamida died issueless. All the grandsons have died.
