CHARSADDA: A police constable, Zarmast Khan, was martyred when unknown assailants opened fire on him at Chontra bridge in the limits of Tangi police station here on Thursday.

The attackers riding on a motorcycle opened fire on the police constable while he was coming home in Tangi after performing his duty at the exise and taxation office. He died on the spot.

The police personnel reached the site, cordoned off the area and have started a search operation. The CTD police, Mardan, registered a case against the unknown attackers and have started investigations.

The funeral prayer of the martyred constable was offered in the Police Lines, Charsadda. Mardan Region DIG Mohammad Ali Khan, Charsadda DPO Sohail Khalid, DC Abdul Rahman, SP Investigations Sajjad Khan, Excise and Taxation Officer Jan Javed Khan attended the funeral prayer and burial rituals.

The police officers laid floral wreaths on the grave of the constable. Talking to relatives of the martyred constable, the DIG said that the perpetrators of the attack would be arrested soon.
