DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A police constable was killed when unidentified assailants opened fire on him in Prova police station limits here on Thursday.

The police said constable Mohammad Aslam serving at Prova police station was on way for security duty at the Benazir Income Support Programme when unidentified attackers targeted him. The attackers also took away his official gun and escaped.

After the incident, DSP Abid Iqbal along with a police party reached the site and started search for arrest of the attackers, while the counter-terrorism department police station registered the case against unknown terrorists.

Meanwhile, the funeral prayer of the martyred constable was performed with official honours at the police lines. Commissioner Dera Aamir Afaq, regional police officer Shaukat Abbas, district police officer Najamul Husnain and other senior police officials attended the funeral.

The commissioner, DPO and RPO also laid floral wreaths on the coffin of the cop. Later, the martyred policeman was buried with official honours in his native area.
