PESHAWAR: President Bhutto declared here today [Nov 24] that his government was determined to bring about Socialism in Pakistan, but said it would not be Communism. Speaking at a reception given by PPP workers ... he said like different religions, Socialism and Communism could go together only to a certain extent.

The objective of the PPP socialist programme was eradication of exploitation while adhering to Islam, which was also against exploitation, he observed. President Bhutto said his party’s programme was different from those of ... the Communists and reactionaries. “If the Communists want that we abandon our religion under cover of socialism it will never be done,” he declared. Similarly, he said, his party would oppose tooth and nail the reactionaries who wanted to use Islam for exploitation. — News agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from New Delhi,] India and Pakistan are to have talks — this time at the level of Chiefs of Army Staff — on the delineation of the line of control in Jammu and Kashmir. The decision follows India’s agreement in principle to Pakistan’s proposal for a meeting between the Army Chiefs... . The talks will be held on a date and at a place mutually convenient to the Army Chiefs.
