KARACHI, Dec 30: Women-of-the-Match, left handed opener Jaya Sharma smashed a maiden hundred as favourites India notched up their second win in Women’s Asia Cup cricket by whipping Pakistan by a walloping 193 runs margin at National Stadium on Friday.

Defending champions India, electing to bat first, raced to 289 for two wickets in their 50 overs. Pakistan in response crashed to 96 all out in 41.4 overs.

Indian spin trio of Neetu David, Nooshinal Khadeer and leg-spinner Reema Malhotra caused the slide in Pakistan batting ranks. Slow left arm spinner Neeta took three wickets for seven runs in an amazing 7.4 overs spell.

Off-spinner Nooshin got two for seven in ten overs with seven maidens. Reema got two for 14 in five overs.

Only three Pakistan batswomen Taskeen Qadeer (21), Sajjida Shah (17) and Urooj Mumtaz reached double figure while extras were 20. Four batswomen failed to open their account.

Pakistan started well as Taskeen Qadeer and Sajjida Shah put on 31 runs for the first wicket.

But the last ten wickets crumbled for mere 65 runs. Sajjida hit three in her 17 and Taskeen got a brace of four while making 21.

Earlier powered by a massive 223-run third wicket stand between Jaya and Anjum Chopra, India piled up 289 for the loss of two wickets in 50 overs after opting to bat first.

This was a new record for third time beating the previous one of 178 against the West Indies in 2003-04.

Fast medium bowler Asmavia Iqbal struck in the fourth over by clean bowling Karuna Jain for three and Sana Mir got rid of Mithali for 19 in the same fashion with India on 66 in 13th over.

But after their departure, Jaya and Anjum punished Pakistani bowling at will and destroyed their mediocre attack by plundering 81 runs in the last ten overs.

Diminutive Delhi-based Jaya clubbed 15 boundaries in her 138 off 150 balls while fellow Delhi batswoman Anjum blasted seven boundaries and a six in 112-ball knock of 86 not out.
