OKARA: The additional district and session judge (AD&SJ) handed down death sentence on two counts to two rapists of a deaf and mute minor girl, and life term, besides fine, to the third offender on Saturday.

Okara Sadar police had registered a rape case against three accused -- Nosher and Hanif and Aras Ali -- in Nov 2021, on the complaint of Tufail, also a deaf and mute person, the father of 13-year-old girl, under section 375A and 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

According to the prosecution, the three accused had raped the minor girl, a resident of 31/2L village, turn by turn in the village fields. The case was investigated by Sub-Inspector Rehana Kokab.

AD&SJ Shahzadi Najaf, after hearing the case, handed down death on two counts to Nosher and Hanif and life term to Asar Ali.

KABADDI MATCH: Pakistan Green won ‘Kabaddi Takra’ match against Pakistan White by a close margin, held in the Jinnah Stadium here on Saturday.

The traditional sport event was organised by the district administration, where Sahiwal Commissioner Javid Akhtar Mehmood was the chief guest.

The Kabaddi match attracted a large number of spectators as such an event was held here after around a decade.

The runner-up, Pakistan White, led by Bilal Aslam Gill, scored 32 points against the winner, Pakistan Green, led by Shafique Chishti, that scored 37 points. Both teams comprised national level players.

Deputy Commissioners of Sahiwal and Pakpattan, besides Punjab chief minister’s political assistant Abdul Rashid Booti were also present.

The commissioner gave away Rs200,000 prize to the winning team and Rs125,000 to the runner-up team, along with a trophy and individual prizes to the players.
