KOHAT: District police officer, Kohat, Shafiullah Gandapur has said that the use of drugs especially ice in the educational institutions is a very serious issue and drug eradication teams have been deployed around them to curb the menace.

He was speaking at a live programme ‘link’ on FM Radio, Kohat, on Thursday. Taking live calls, he said efforts were underway to end the infamous thana culture and turn the police stations into public facilitation and rehabilitation centres.

He said sessions for the police station staff were being held to inculcate in them moral values and respect for the people. He urged the community to support the police in its drive for a peaceful and drug-free society.

He said that people’s support was of vital importance for combatingland and drug mafias. He said that nobodywould be allowed to take the law into his own hands.

He sought people’s help in identifying mafias so that crimes could be effectively curbed. He said that positive results had been achieved in the crackdown on proclaimed offenders and all no-go areas had been cleared of criminals.

Answering a question regarding frequent traffic jams caused by rickshaws, he issued orders for taking action to resolve the issue.

ALLOWANCES: City mayor Qari Sher Zaman has said that the local government has started the allowances for the city mayor and village and neighborhood councils’ chairmen.

Talking to this correspondent on Thursday, he said the monthly allowance of the mayor included Rs30,000 along with 130 litres petrol, Rs2,000 for mobile, Rs5,000 for office entertainment and Rs1,500 as TA/DA for any official work.

Similarly, the village and neighbourhood councils’ chairmen would get Rs20,000 monthly allowance.
