RAWALPINDI: An under-trial prisoner (UTP) attempted suicide in Adiala jail.

According to jail officials, the accused did this to press his “unjustified” demands.

Arif Khalid, assistant superintendent of the jail, lodged an FIR saying that Ibrahim, a resident of Bahria Town Phase-II, was languishing in the jail in connection with a criminal case registered against him on Oct 16, 2021, by the Airport police.

The FIR stated that the UTP attempted suicide by cutting his neck, arms, legs and belly with a blade.

He was shifted to the hospital where his condition was stated to be stable. However, a case was registered against the accused on the charges of attempted suicide with the Saddar Bairooni police.

Meanwhile, a convicted prisoner was booked on the charge of bringing hashish with him to the jail after attending the proceeding of his case in the court of a civil judge.
