LOWER DIR: Four persons were injured when employees of the Timergara Medical College and the participants of a protest rally pelted stones on each other here on Friday.

The protesters had staged a rally outside the college against the alleged irregularities in college appointments. The protest was organised by Jamaat-i-Islami’s youth wing.

It is to mention here that over 135 people have been appointed against different posts in the medical college. They were given appointment letters during a function held at the college a few days ago.

The college employees, according to witnesses, also came out of the building and chanted slogans against the protesters and the JI. Later, the college employees and the protesters threw stones at each other, causing injuries to four persons The injured were provided first aid by a Rescue 1122 emergency team.

The police controlled the situation, forcing the protesters to disperse.

Later, JI district chief Izazul Malik Afkari held a press conference, where he claimed the college employees, on the directives of someone, came out of the building and started pelting stones on the peaceful protesters.

He said dozens of youth were protesting against the ‘violation’ of merit in appointments at the Timergara Medical College.

Mr Afkari said a peaceful protest was the right of every individual and organisation, adding they would not remain silent on the matter.

He said the provincial government should replace the college project director and appoint a principal to the institution.
