CHARSADDA: Provincial Minister for Higher Education Kamran Bangash performed the groundbreaking of the much-awaited new academic blocks in the main campus of Bacha Khan University, Charsadda, on Thursday.

Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Bashir Ahmed Khan and dean faculty of arts Prof Syed Salim Shah were present on the occasion besides a number of other officials and students of the university.

Speaking at the ceremony, the minister said that after completion of the varsity’s boundary wall the work had now been started on new academic blocks.

He hoped that the construction work would be completed in the stipulated time. He also praised vice-chancellor Prof Bashir Ahmed for his efforts in the land acquisition process. He said that infrastructure was vital for promotion of education.

The VC said that land for the university building was acquired in 2012. He regretted that most of the land was in occupation of owners for about nine years.

However, he said the land was acquired through negotiations and jirgas with the help of local elders.

The VC appreciated the cooperation of the provincial government, saying work on the boundary wall was completed with its special grant.

EXPO HELD: The Government Technical and Vocational Institute, Mirza Dher, here has announced to donate 5,000 dress suits sewed by its students to the flood-stricken people and also impart training to the womenfolk in the affected areas of the district.

A Job Expo and Exhibition of handmade clothes and other items was organised by the institute located in Mirza Dher area of Tangi tehsil here the other day.

Tevta director academics Sadiq Orakzai, additional deputy commissioner Sania Safi, district social welfare officer Shoeb Khan, principals of technical colleges and a number of women participated in the event.

The expo was held for the students to have access to the market for promotion of their handmade products and also to provide them with a chance to seek employment in local industry.
