LAHORE: Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal has said the government has developed a mechanism to help the flood-hit people.

“Under this mechanism, the needs of the flood-hit people will be identified so that they can be helped in a systematic way,” Ahsan Iqbal said during his meeting with Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman at the Governor House here on Wednesday.

The governor said helping the flood-affected people and rehabilitating them was the top priority of the government. He said the federal and provincial governments, armed forces, philanthropists and the public were actively participating in the flood relief efforts.

He said the public and private universities of Punjab were also contributing to the relief activities.

Mr Rehman said a consortium was being formed in each university with the aim of establishing links between the higher education and industry.
