KARACHI: A minor girl was raped and strangled in Korangi on Wednesday evening, police said.

Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed said that the body of a 12-year-old girl was brought at the medico-legal section of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and the post-mortem examination suggested that she was brutally raped.

“Swabs have been prepared for serology and DNA profiling and cross-matching,” she said, adding: “The cause of death determined as asphyxia due to constriction of neck.”

Zaman Town SHO Rizwan Patel said that the girl’s father told the police that when he returned home from work he found the body of his daughter hanging with the ceiling.

He said by the time police arrived the scene the father had already removed the body.

He said the father did not want to follow the legal course of action, but the police persuaded him for completion of medico-legal formalities.

The SHO said that the girl was home alone as her mother had left the family in the recent past.

The police surgeon said there was no ‘hanging marks’ on the neck and she was murdered.
