HARIPUR: The tehsil council here has approved 50 per cent increase in monthly rent of the tehsil municipal administration’s shops and commercial property so it could meet its expenditure.

Presiding officer Khanzeb Khan chaired the council session here the other day, which was also attended by tehsil chairman Samiullah Khan, tehsil municipal officer Fakhrul Islam, executive engineer Javed Khan and tehsil officer (revenue) Abrar Alvi.

About the ongoing financial crisis faced by tehsil municipal administration (TMA), the members pointed out that the monthly rent of its commercial property and shops was much less than the market rates and the raise in the rent was the only solution to meet its financial needs.

The council members unanimously approved the resolution and the decision would be implemented from next month.

Speaking to the council members, the tehsil chairman said the sanitation staff was ensuring cleanliness in urban limits and due to financial crisis the services could not be extended beyond the tehsil municipal administration (TMA) limits.
