KOHAT: Fourteen people were injured during exchange of fire between the Karbogha Sharif and Doaba tribes of Hangu over a land dispute on Friday.

They took positions after a brawl and started firing at each other, which continued for several hours.

The tribes have been fighting for the possession of a mountain for decades.

Hangu deputy commissioner Mohammad Rafique Khan Momand, district police officer Asif Bahadar, army and police officials rushed to the scene and stopped the firing after deliberations with the warring tribes.

The officials called on the warring tribes to sit together and resolve the issue through amicably. A jirga was also constituted to resolve the land dispute.

Meanwhile, the Kohat police arrested 30 Afghans and recovered weapons from them during an operation in Junglekhel and adjoining refugee camps on Friday.

SHO Junglekhel Mohammad Vaqas led a team, which raided the houses and rounded up 30 Afghans.

The seizure included Kalashnikovs, kalakovs, pistols, shotguns and hundreds of cartridges.
