LAHORE: The city district administration on Friday launched “Shining and Green Lahore Campaign” beginning from Habib Jalib Chowk to Kalma Chowk.

Commissioner Aamir Jaan inaugurated the campaign at Habib Jalib Chowk, Siddique Trade Centre. Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) DG Zeeshan Javaid, hundreds of PHA gardeners, LWMC, MCL, Wasa and LDA workers were present.

The workers will clean the main boulevard, service lanes, sub roads of main boulevards, including Noor Jahan Road, Kasuri Road, MM Alam Road and Zahoor Elahi Road to clean green belts and trim the bushes and trees.

Jaan said all Lahore agencies had started work simultaneously on a specific area to remove encroachment, to paint pedestrian bridges, repair work of signage, curb stones, streetlights, hanging wires and other issues during the campaign. He said work under the campaign started at 5am in morning and all officers, workers, gardeners, staff and machinery were lined up.

On the directions of the commissioner, every 300 meter area was given under the supervision of each AC to resolve all civic issues on the selected area. He said that one reason for starting the campaign from main boulevard was to clear the area well before the arrival of the England cricket team but the next day all areas of Lahore would be cleaned in phases.

The commissioner visited the area with workers and then stayed at a camp established by the MCL at Habib Jalib Chowk for one hour. He also monitored the whole area to see the performance of ACs, in-charges and workers in the field and said work would continue the whole day and data of performance be evaluated after the day off.

He said after putting the workers of all departments to work, the officers will not go home and stay in the camp to monitor the work every two hours for the whole day and it will be like this every day.

The PHA DG said all resources would be employed for the success of the project. Instructions have been issued to all PHA officers to monitor the campaign. All the work will be supervised by PHA officers.
