KOHAT: The Kohat and Hangu police in a joint action on Friday arrested six persons and recovered an abducted person from their captivity.

The man was abducted on Sept 2 for ransom, the police said, adding they also seized two cars and weapons from the abductors.

Kohat Saddar DSP Nazir Hussain told a press conference that Asif Khan was abducted at gunpoint from Bahadarkot, and the kidnappers were demanding Rs6 million ransom for his release.

He said DIG Kohat region Tahir Ayub had constituted a team, which traced the hideout of the criminals through modern technology in Wutch Bazaar of Hangu, where the victim was found chained in a house.

He said the police arrested six abductors, including Ikhtiar Gul, Hamesh Gul, Naimatullah, Abid Rehman, Mohammad Sajjad and Mohammad Asif.

DENGUE AWARENESS: Public health coordinator Dr Haroon Nasir Khattak through a radio programme on Friday asked people to adopt precautions to stay safe from dengue.

He said dozens of cases had been reported in Lachi tehsil, asking people to approach hospitals in case of fever instead of home treatment.

Mr Khattak informed the people that dengue was caused by the bite of a particular female mosquito with white and black lines on its wings. He advised the victims not to use any antibiotics, wear full-sleeve shirts, long trousers, keep doors open during fogging, cover windows and doors with nets, change water in buckets every second day, keep containers and surroundings clean and dispose of water stagnating in utensils.

SECTION 144: Deputy commissioner Furqan Ashraf on Friday imposed Section 144 from September 12 to 18 to maintain law and order during the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).

According to a statement, he banned hate speech, sermons, slogans, use of loudspeakers other than Azaan, wall-chalking, pillion-riding, display of weapons except for police and other security agencies, standing on rooftops, staying of outsiders in inns and hotels, carrying of petroleum products in small containers, tinted-glass vehicles, firing in air and gatherings of five or more persons.

Meanwhile, chairing a meeting of elders and clerics of different sects at his office, the deputy commissioner stressed unity among them. He made it clear that nobody would be allowed to challenge the government writ.
