KOHAT: The contractor of the main cattle market in Kohat has complained about over a dozen illegal markets having sprung up along the highways and in the bazaars to avoid the tax charged on animals’ sale in his market.

Talking to Dawn on Wednesday, Ehsanullah Tahir said he had contracted the market for Rs13.7 million, regretting he was suffering huge losses due to the illegal markets. He said despite repeated complaints to the district administration no action was taken to remove illegal markets.

Deputy commissioner Roshan Mesud said he had allowed small cattle markets due to rush in the main market and as a precaution against spread of Congo and lumpy skin diseases.

CLEANLINESS PLAN: Water Supply and Sanitation Company has finalised a three-day cleanliness plan for Eidul Azha and has cancelled leaves of all the staffers.

Addressing a news conference on Wednesday, company’s deputy general manager Atif Afif said 100 vehicles would be used during the exercise to keep the city clean on Eid.

He said 232 collection points had been established along with 25 transfer stations from where offal would be lifted to the dumping site.

Meanwhile, police have devised Eid security plan, under which 1,500 police personnel and 10 quick response squads would be deployed across the district.

The plan was finalised at a meeting chaired by district police officer Mohammad Suleman on Wednesday.
