RAHIM YAR KHAN: Environment Protection Department (EPD) officials have started a crackdown on illegal tyre burning factories (pyrolysis plants) in the district, says a handout.

An EPD team, headed by Assistant Director Aamir Irshaad Rehmani, visited factories after media reports and public complaints.

The deputy commissioner also ordered sealing of the illegal factories which are extracting oil after burning tyres.

All such factories were sealed while a factory, which violated the sealing order, was also resealed after registration of an FIR against its owners.

Factory owners were warned if these factories were found operational, action would be initiated.

As such factories create environment pollution, they will not be allowed to operate again in any shape, Mr Rehmani added.
