KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to hold reelection for 28 categories including chairman, vice chairman and ward members at 91 polling stations in four divisions of Sindh because of a host of reasons including violence.

“Out of 28 categories, elections on 15 were stopped because of violence while voting on 13 other seats was halted due to other various reasons like flaws in ballot papers and administrative issues,” said joint provincial election commissioner Ali Asghar Siyal. He said that the date of re-polling would be announced later.

ECP lodges 10 FIRs

The official confirmed that two men were killed in violent incidents in different areas during the first phase of the local government election held in 14 districts of four divisions — Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad and Mirpurkhas — of Sindh on Sunday.

ECP officials had lodged complaints with respective police stations for registration of 10 FIRs against miscreants over different charges ranging from kidnapping of their staff, snatching of ballot papers and other election-related material in Kashmore, Shikarpur, Kotdiji, Baberlo and Thull etc.

The ECP, he said, had also prepared a detailed report that would be sent to headquarters about the overall situation during election including violence and irregularities that had taken place on Sunday.
