RAWALPINDI: Fight against drug abuse and trafficking will continue and the officials of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) will carry out their duties to save the new generation from the curse of drugs.

This was stated by ANF Director General Ghulam Shabir Narejo while speaking at an event held in connection with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. A play titled Zahr-i-Qatil was staged at the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) to highlight the issue of drug abuse.

Mr Narejo, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said the country was facing many challenges and “we will make efforts to rid it of drugs”.

The play, written and directed by Imran Roshdi, was part of various events arranged by the RAC to observe the day. Later, a group from Lahore performed cultural dances of different regions. At the end of the programme, renowned singer Sanam Marvi presented a speech. Dr Mubashir and Shaan Khan also evoked the magic of sound.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Narejo said: “We pledge to carry forward our manifesto with utmost determination, sincerity and devotion and also pay tribute to our martyrs who have sacrificed their present for the better future of our new generation.

RAC Director Waqar Ahmed said this day had been observed every year since 1987 in accordance with a United Nations (UN) resolution. The purpose of the day is to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse around the world and how it threatens society, especially young people, he said.
