LAHORE: The Punjab hockey team will undertake a tour of three Central Asian countries in September this year to play matches there.

Punjab Hockey Association president retired Col Asif Nawaz said here on Saturday that the PHA had received the invitation to visit Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan in July but due to change in the government the visa process could not be completed. However, he said, the PHA again received the invitation for September.

Meanwhile, Col Asif said the PHA on Saturday signed a contract with a marketing company which would arrange funds from sponsors for every PHF event.

Punjab, the PHA official said, was the backbone of Pakistan hockey noting almost all the players of the country’s national squad in the last Asia Cup staged in Jakarta were from Punjab.
