This refers to the news ‘Rs10m a day for assembly’ (June 16) related to Punjab Assembly. We cannot afford such expenses in a struggling economy only ot provide the lawmakers a place to fight with each other. The people have been bearing the burden of the lavish lifestyle of their politicians. Will the lawmakers, regardless of the political divide, wake up to the reality? Will anyone come forward and save the common man from this misery and curtail the expenses of the lawmakers?

FUEL PRICE HIKE: The government has increased petrol prices for the third time in the last 20 days, with the current price being Rs235 per litre. According to government spokespersons, it has been a difficult decision, but the critics are of the opinion that the strategies implemented by the government are flawed. Instead of playing a blame-game, the government must sign a subsidised fuel agreement within the region. The state must focus on its own interests and tell the world that it cannot be a part of any particular bloc.

PUBLIC INTEREST: The constant use of religious terminology for political purposes by the opposition leaders has now got to the point of being irritating. There is a serious overdose of the ‘Islamic touch’. It would be better if the opposition works inside the assemblies rather than creating anarchy and chaos on the streets.

POLITICAL WAR: The current political situation of Pakistan is a real-life depiction of the story of Animal Farm. The parliamentary system seems like a dying patient whose vital systems are shutting down one after the other. For the common man, the integrity of the country is supreme and beyond anything else. It is high time the people decided if they wanted to continue with a non-functional parliamentary system or opt for a system that is reflective of their true aspirations.
