LOWER DIR: Prolonged power outages have virtually paralysed life and business activities in Timergara city and other areas of the district.

The traders’ body on Sunday threatened to start protests if smooth supply of electricity was ensured soon.

Expressing grave concern over the hours-long and unannounced power loadshedding in the district, Anjuman-i-Tajiran Timergara president Haji Anwaruddin said that the regular daily power outage in Timergara city from 8am to 4pm had destroyed their businesses.

He said that power outages had been continuing from morning till evening for the last one year in the name of installing new electricity poles in the district. He demanded an immediate end to the unannounced power outages and threatened that the business community would go on a shutter down strike across the district to protest if the authorities failed to meet their demand.

RELIGIOUS SCHOLAR PASSES AWAY: Prominent religious scholar and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl’s former district chief Qazi Abdul Salam was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Shamshi Khan, Talash, here on Sunday.

He passed away at the age of 105 years. JUI-F provincial chief Senator Maulana Attaur Rehman, Maulana Gul Naseeb and thousands of people from all parts of the district attended his funeral.

Late Abdul Salam imparted religious education for about 75 years and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was also one of his pupils.

Maulana Attaur Rehman lauded the servicesof late Abdul Salam for seminaries and their students and termed his departure as a great loss.

LAND DISPUTE: Five persons identified as Azeem Khan, 32, Izzat Khan, 28, Rasool Khan, 42, Sadiq, 26, and Ruhail Khan, 32, were injured when two groups started hurling stones and beat each other over a land dispute at Khaima in Balambat police station limits here on Sunday.

Rescue 1122 shifted the injured to the DHQ hospital, Timergara. The police registered a case and have started investigations.

BISE CHAIRMAN: Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Malakand, chairman Prof Zameen Gul visited different examination centres in Lower Dir the other day and checked the CCTV cameras and other arrangements for the SSC exams.

On this occasion, he said that cheating in exams was being checked strictly. He noted with dissatisfaction that CCTV cameras at some of the centres were not connected online with the board.
