HARIPUR: The Peshawar High Court’s Abbottabad bench has issued a stay order temporarily stopping the University of Haripur (UoH) from making fresh appointments and promotions, and directed the acting vice-chancellor to appear before it on June 21 over the alleged violation of rules.

The order was issued by Justice Waqar Ahmed and Justice Kamran Hayat Miankhel on a petition jointly filed by UoH assistant director (horticulture) Naila Nawaz, deputy registrar (establishment) Humaira Zaman, assistant provost Tasneefullah, assistant director (student financial aid) Abbas Ali, deputy controller (examinations) Asghar Ali and other members of the staff.

They made the acting UoH VC, chancellor, registrar, deputy registrar (establishment) Rashid Mehmood, assistant registrar Aybak Khan, lecturer appointed on fixed pay Affan Khan, and chairman of the Higher Education Commission respondents in the petition.

The petitioners insisted that the current university head was the pro-VC, who wanted to recruit the ‘maximum possible number of employees in a short span of time’ in violation of the statutes of the university and issued separate advertisements for the purpose.

They alleged that the acting VC had a mala fide intent and wanted to recruit employees through nepotism.

KILLED: Aman was killed and three people were injured when rivals opened fire in Kangra village, the police said here on Friday.

The police said an old family dispute was the cause of firing, which killed Shahnawaz and injured Gulistan, Faisal and Raqeeda Bibi.

The injured named Mohammad Hanif, Mohammad Sharif and Mohammad Sher for the gun attack leading to the arrest of the first two accused. The third was at large.

Also, a minor girl washit and killed by a van in Khanpur area here.

The police said Sabeeha, a two-year-old resident of Mohallah Milad Nagar, was knocked down by the van outside her house when she was playing with friends.

The girl succumbed to head injuries at the tehsil headquarters hospital.

Meanwhile,two women committed suicide in the limits of city police station here.

The police said Misbah Bibi, 22, and her 25-year-old sister-in-law, Rizwana Bibi, consumed poisonous substance after having an altercation over a family issue on Thursday evening.
