SAHIWAL: Eight bogies of Lahore-bound goods train derailed at Yousafwala Railway Station here on Thursday morning.

Railway engineers claimed that the derailment occurred because of the breaking of trace bar at the track.

A relief train with heavy cranes was called from Lahore to clear the track. It took 10 hours to lift and adjust eight bogies back on the track. The up-side railway track remained closed for 12 hours because of the derailment.

Local railway sources said all passenger, goods, and express trains were running from downriver tracks. The train was coming from Karachi and moving to Premnagar, Lahore.

As per initial investigation, wheels of bogies got dysfunctional while shifting from main railway tracks to sidetracks.

A railway spokesperson at Yousafwala station told Dawn that the responsibility for negligence, if any, would be fixed. Both up and down tracks were opened and the train left for Premnagar by afternoon.
