LAHORE: The power workers across the country observed the National Safety Day on Monday under the auspices of the All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union (CBA) as a part of their struggle for the prevention of accidents involving the line staff.

A conference was held at the Bakhtiar Labour Hall here where hundreds of workers sought their safety with the provision of adequate safety gadgets.

“We appeal to the senior officers of the power distribution companies, Wapda and others to ensure a safe working environment for the line staff as it is their fundamental right not to work in unsafe working conditions,” said union secretary general Khurshid Ahmad while speaking on the occasion.

He said two members of the line staff, namely Saleem Khan of Gujranwala and Muhammad Arshad of Toba Tek Singh, recently died due to electrocution.

“The federal minister must intervene and get such untoward incidents stopped by all means,” he demanded.

LESCO: As many as 13,000 field staff of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) visited the consumers door to door in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib districts in a bid to educate them on registering complaints. The officials, according to a spokesperson, noted the consumers’ contact numbers and gave mobile numbers for lodging complaints.
