TAXILA: The district administration of Attock on Saturday initiated a dengue action plan to prevent the occurrence of the mosquito-borne disease during the summer season.

This was announced during a meeting of the district emergency response committee presided over by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Naeem Sindhu.

The meeting was attended by officials of the health, revenue, tehsil municipal administration and anti-dengue teams.

The committee has been asked to define roles and responsibilities for the concerned departments and ensure close coordination to effectively monitor implementation of dengue action plan and furnish a report on a weekly basis to the special control room which is established in the deputy commissioner office.

The meeting was informed that the health department in collaboration with the district administration would ensure timely measures so that the dengue spread could be minimised to avoid casualties.

Dengue units with a maximum of beds and other facilities have been set up in all the district and tehsil headquarters hospitals along with focal persons to ensure coordination among all the relevant departments.

Addressing the participants, the DC directed the officials to fully implement the dengue action plan to achieve the desired results.

“There is a dire need to be aware of the dangers of dengue in the current season.” He said the reporting system also needed to be improved to tackle the disease while every case reported in the dashboard should be responded to as quickly as possible.

He stressed effective monitoring of the action plan and said the district government would provide all required resources for its smooth sailing. He also directed the local government department to improve the drainage and water supply system in the dengue hotspots.

He asked the assistant commissioners and chief officers to hold regular meetings regarding dengue prevention and ensure the participation of social figures in it.
