KARACHI: Seven horses are pitted against each other in the Labour Day Cup which tops the action in the Gymkhana race meeting being held at the Karachi Racecourse on Saturday.
With a win already under his belt, dark bay horse Robert is on course to stretch his winning run provided he maintains his form and gets past six other contenders in the cup race.
Robert won his last race defeating Choice of the Day by four-and-a-half lengths under scale order III and IV on March 20. He is likely to be challenged by bay horse Azeem Choice and Young Gun. The former had to be content with second place in his last outing.
Other four horses in the race are Mind of Promise, Zaheer Choice, Balochistan Queen and Choice of the Day.
The race which is third of a four-race card, is also the feature event under top combined scale order I, II and III and will go over four-and-a-half furlongs.
Bay horse Airborne is expected to make amends by winning fourth and the last race classified under scale order IV, V and VI to be run over similar distance of four-and-a-half furlongs.
Airborne had occupied second place on board losing to Desco by a length-and-a-half last week.
Mare Smart Girl can do wonders among nine horses while either of the two stable mates — Geo Jalal and Take Care – can settle for a place on board along with bay horse Front Man.
Chestnut horse Golden Apple has the ability to clinch the opening race that features a field of 10 horses under scale order VIII to be run over four furlongs.
Trio of Sheba, Epsom and New Market look smart for the places on board.
Dark bay mare Stella look destined to return to winning ways in the next race under scale order VII that will take place over four furlongs.
All in all, 33 horses will vie for honours in the day’s races barring last-minute withdrawal(s).
The first race starts at 2:30pm.
