PESHAWAR: Minister for health and finance Taimur Saleem Jhagra has said the provincial government is committed to promoting sports to bring a healthy change in the society.
He expressed these views while addressing the inaugural function of a Ramazan sports gala organised by the Khyber Union of Journalists and Rehman Medical Institute (RMI) on the premises of the Peshawar Press Club on Monday night.
Taimur Jhagra said a healthy body was essential for a healthy mind.
Provincial minister for higher education Kamran Bangash, special assistant to the chief minister on information and public relations Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif and RMI sports manager Sajid Durrani were also present at the colourful opening ceremony of the sports gala.
On the occasion, Kamran Bangash said there should also be sports competitions between journalists and the provincial ministers.
Barrister Saif said the PTI government was taking steps to resolve the problems faced by journalists. He said the journalists of Peshawar had always pointed out the shortcomings of the government while also praising its positive deeds.
Over 200 journalists are participating in five different games, including badminton, table tennis, snooker, carom board and ludo. There were thrilling battles between the journalists in badminton, table tennis, snooker, carom board and ludo.
The journalists thanked the government and the RMI management for extending support in holding the 15-day-long sports gala.
