ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has roped in two foreign coaches to train national taekwondo athletes for this year’s Commonwealth Games (CWG) and the Asian Games, it was announced on Friday.

“Keeping in view the importance of these events we have hired the services of two foreign coaches, one from South Korea and the other from Iran, to train our taekwondo players,” PSB director general retired Col Asif Zaman said in a statement.

According to the official, the PSB was paying for the services of the Iranian coach, while the South Korean government was bearing the expenses of the coach from their country.

“We want to maximise our athletes’ chances to win medals at these coveted events [CWG and Asian Games] and for that we are utilising our all resources,” Col Asif added.

A camp for national taekwondo team featuring over 50 athletes is currently underway at the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad where the athletes are being trained on modern lines.

The CWG are scheduled to be held from July 28 to Aug 8 in Birmingham while the 2022 Asian Games will take place from Sept 10 to 25 in Hangzhou, China.
