CHINIOT: With the beginning of Ramazan, the prices of vegetables, fruits and grocery items have gone up in Chiniot.

The prices of tomato, ginger, onion, bitter gourd, and ladyfinger and fruits like apple, banana, guava, and strawberry have almost doubled in the open market because of their more demand. Chicken is being sold at Rs450, mutton Rs1,500 and beef Rs700 per kilogramme in the market.

Although the district administration has established five Ramzan bazaars across the district, these are insufficient for the more than 2 million population of the district.

Deputy Commissioner Asim Javed said that he has convened the meeting of price magistrates of the district to task them with implementing the prices fixed by the district administration.

“I’ve also visited various trading points in the city along with Assistant Commissioner Bilal Bin Hafeez and put two shopkeepers behind bars for overcharging the customers,” the DC added.

He said a complaint centre has been established at the DC office where citizens can lodge complaints about the shortage of commodities, and high prices.

They can also lodge complaints on Punjab Government mobile App “Qeemat Punjab” for quick resolution of their complaints.

KILLED: Two gunmen killed shopkeeper Muhammad Zeeshan, employed at Makkah LPG on Jhang Road.

He was closing the shop when two unidentified gunmen shot at and killed him and fled.

His father Muhammad Ishaq has lodged an FIR with the city police.
