ONE-WAY TRAFFIC

Published March 22, 2022

ONE-WAY TRAFFIC: Two 3km stretches in Khayaban-i-Shaheen and Khayaban-i-Shujaat of DHA phase VIII have been restricted to one-way traffic. Unfortunately, the rule is constantly violated by drivers as vehicles, including tankers, disregard the law. At least three traffic wardens are needed to nab the errant drivers. The govern-ment would surely get a lot of revenue from the fines imposed, besides managing the traffic on the said roads.

HUMAN AVALANCHE: It is surprising that such an important issue as uncontrolled population growth has hither to not been aggressively tackled. It was China’s population management policy that heavily contributed to its economic miracle. In contrast, Pakistan adds at least 20 million people to its population every five years, equal to the total population of Sri Lanka. A Herculean task for any government to manage well is a human avalanche of such massive magnitude.

WATER CRISIS: There is an extreme shortage of fresh water in some villages of interior Sindh. Those located in Qambar-Shahdadkot, Qubo Saeed Khan Taluka, and Kachipull union council face severe scarcity of fresh drinking water, and the crisis is intensifying with every passing day. People in rural areas usually drink water from ditches and ponds, and it is no wonder that waterborne diseases are rampant in such areas.

Also, there is little water available for cultivating crops in the affected villages.

POLITICAL MESS: This refers to the report ‘Profanity-laden outburst by PM’ (March 12). What neutrality really means in the present context is that people and institutions are acting strictly within their specified domains. If we start acting as judge, jury and executioner, we would end up in a complete mess, which we surely seem to be heading towards.
