ISLAMABAD: A man murdered his wife, her coworker, father-in-law and brother-in-law during separate attacks on Tuesday, police said.

Another man then shot and injured him when he was leaving from the spot after committing the crime, they added.

The suspect, employed as a clerk at Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI), suspected that his wife, a nurse by profession, was in a relationship with her coworker, who was a technician, the police said.

First, the suspect shot his father-in-law Aziz-ur-Rehman and brother-in-law Shoaib Aziz with a 30-bore pistol at their house. Both of them died on the spot.

Later, police said, he went to his wife’s workplace in G-6 (MCH) and shot her dead. Her coworkers were also present when the incident happened, they said, adding the suspect then left from there and shot the technician in a nearby street after spotting him there, who also died on the spot.

A resident of the neighbourhood spotted the suspect as he was escaping and shot him in the leg to stop him from escaping.

Police shifted the deceased and the injured to the hospital. The suspect told police that he was a respectable man and he committed the murders because his wife had been in a relationship with the technician since the past 15 years.

He said he feared that his daughters would be taken from him if he had to divorce his wife.

Station house officer (SHO) of Aabpara police station Saleem Raza said it was likely that there was a family dispute between the suspect and his in-laws.

He is in police custody and admitted in the hospital due to gunshot injuries, the SHO added.
