ABBOTTABAD: Forty-three candidates are in the running for three tehsil chairmen and one mayor slots of Abbottabad, according to the final list released by the local election commission here on Saturday.

According to the list, 13 candidates are vying for the Abbottabad tehsil mayor slot. Four candidates are independents, while the nine others are from PML-N, PPP, PTI, TLP, JUI-F, JI, PAT, Tehreek Suba Hazara and JUI-S.

Nine candidates are in the fray for Lora tehsil slot, including one independent and the rest are from PML-N, Pakistan Rah-i-Haq Party, Pakistan Islamic Republican Party, TLP, JUI-F, PTI, Allah-o-Akbar Tehreek and JI.

For Lower Tanawal tehsil, eight candidates are in the running, including four independents, and the rest are from TLP, PPP Shaheed Bhutto, PML-N and PTI.

In Havelian, there are 13 candidates, including six independents and seven from PML-N, PAT, PTI, JUI-F, Allah-o-Akbar Tehreek, JI and TLP.

It may be added that Col retired Sardar Shabir Ahmed had filed nomination as covering candidate of PTI candidate Sardar Shujah Nabi for Abbottabad tehsil mayor seat, but did not withdraw his papers.

According to party sources, the dual nationality case of Sardar Shujah has been filed in the Peshawar High Court’s Abbottabad Bench and the court order was expected on March 22.

They said in case of any adverse court ruling, they had decided not to withdraw Shabir Ahmed’s candidature.
