ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) issued 2,163 tickets to road users over violation of traffic signals during the last 45 days, a spokesman said.

“Following the directions of IGP Islamabad Mohammad Ahsan Younis, a special campaign has been launched to check violations while various squads headed by Senior Superintendent of Police (traffic) Mazhar Iqbal are performing duties at main roads and taking action against the violators.”

During the last 45 days, he added, 2,163 road users were fined over violation of traffic signals.

The SSP said that efforts were underway to ensure traffic discipline in the city.

He also appealed the citizens to follow rules. He said ITP personnel had been directed to ensure implementation on traffic rules and regulation irrespective of status and rank and demonstrate patience and politeness while issuing tickets to the road users.

“ITP is utilising all available resources to facilitate the general public. The force issues traffic violation tickets not as a punitive measure but to ensure safe road environment in the capital and secure the lives of the people,” he said.

The SSP appealed the citizens to cooperate with the ITP in maintaining traffic discipline in the city.
