SWAT: Deputy commissioner Junaid Khan said on Sunday that the three-day Kalam Snow and Sports Festival attracted visitors and sportsmen from across the country.

He stated this while addressing the prize distribution ceremony of the festival, which was organised by district administration and the district sports office.

He was accompanied by regional sports officer Kashif Farhan, district youth officer Farhad Ali, additional secretary Tashfeen Haider, additional deputy commissioner Riaz Khan and others.

A large number of visitors witnessed the sports activities on the final day.

Mr Junaid said Malam Jabba had now become the best spot for promoting winter sports and tourism, adding the government was constructing main and link roads to facilitate tourists.

The deputy commissioner said the snow and sports festival would be organised regularly at other tourist sites of Swat as well to attract local and foreign tourists.

Teams from Nowshera, Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Malakand, Hazara and Bannu divisions took part in the competitions.

Competitions of snow kabaddi, throwball, tchoukball, tug-of-war, rugby, jujitsu, karate traditional and Angore, a traditional sport played with one leg, were held during the festival.

According to the results, Nowshera team defeated Peshawar in the final of throwball and Nowshera grabbed the tchoukball trophy defeating Charsadda. Kalam team defeated Darosh Chitral in the tug-of-war final.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tchoukball Association president and former international athlete Mohammad Iqbal and DC Swat distributed prizes and awards to the players.

Cultural dances, bonfire, archery, playing of traditional music and display of food stalls also added to the charm of the snow and sports festival.
