LAKKI MARWAT: Bannu district police officer Imran Shahid discussed the security of religious minorities in the region and promised foolproof security to them and places of their worship.
Additional superintendent of police Salim Riaz Khan, the deputy superintendents of police, station house officers, and representatives of Hindu, Christian and Shia communities attended the meeting, which was held in the wake of the killing of Christian priest William Siraj in Peshawar on Sunday.
The police officials heard the problems faced by non-Muslims and said action would be taken on the proposals of minority leaders for their community’s better security.
Mr Imran said the police had made adequate and foolproof security arrangements for the worship places of minorities. He said special police squads had been deployed to guard churches, temples and imambargahs in the district.
He directed the DSPs and other subordinate police officials to monitor security of the worship places of minorities round the clock and keep close liaison with members of the communities.
Later, the district police chief visited churches, temples and imambargahs and checked security arrangements there.
Mr Imran also checked security arrangements at the district judicial complex late Sunday night. DSP Mohammad Riaz Khattak accompanied him.
The DPO issued special instructions to the policemen and assured them that their ‘genuine needs’ would be met. He also visited sentry posts and met policemen deployed there.
