LARKANA: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Wednesday inaugurated the Sindh Solid Waste Management project in Larkana at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Stadium.

A Chinese company is estimated to pick 400 tonnes of garbage daily from 20 union councils and four towns of Larkana.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the PPP chairman vowed to implement public-friendly schemes and policies like cleaning of cities, establishing free hospital systems and granting ownership rights to residents of katchi abadis across the country.

He said that garbage collection had started in Larkana and that work would start from houses to dumping sites.

He said an awareness campaign would have to be launched to keep the city clean and green. He also asked the citizens to ensure cooperation with sanitation staff.

The PPP chairman said that the Chinese company had a responsibility for cleaning the city, because the people of China had close relations with Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

He said that since Murtaza Wahab had been appointed as Karachi administrator, he had started work with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, local government department and experts in the Sindh Waste Management in the rest of the districts.

Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, MNA Khurshid Ahmed Junejo, MPA Sohail Anwar Sial, Sindh Solids Waste Management Board chief Zubair Channa and former Larkana mayor Khair Muhammad Shaikh were also present.

Later, they inspected machinery and vehicles of the project, which is expected to provide employment opportunities to hundreds of locals.
