ISLAMABAD: The representative bodies of federal government employees decided to stage a sit-in on Feb 10 in Islamabad in protest against the government’s failure to provide them with a special allowance, which was promised to them.

The decision was made at a meeting of the representative bodies of various federal government departments, which was chaired by the head of Pak Secretariat Employees Core Community and chief coordinator of the All Government Employees Grand Alliance Rehman Ali Bajwa, according to a statement issued on Friday.

In the meeting, participants urged the government to announce the allowance, as promised to them by the finance minister before Feb 10. They said if the government announced the allowance, they would gather in support of the government. Otherwise, the statement said, the demonstration would be converted to a sit-in, in exercise of their democratic and constitutional right to protest.

They also warned the government against using force against the protesters.
