GUJAR KHAN: Partially used and unused Covid-19 vaccines were found dumped in the vicinity of a private college near Gujar Khan city on Friday.

As the matter was highlighted on social media, authorities of the health department swung into action.

Focal person for Covid-19 Mohammad Yousaf reached the spot with his team and took the vaccines into custody.

When contacted, Deputy District Health Officer Dr Junaid confirmed to Dawn that around 50 vaccines had been recovered from the garbage. Only three of them were partially used while the rest were intact. These included PakVac and Sinovac vaccines, he added.

It is speculated that some workers engaged in the outdoor vaccination drive might have thrown the vaccines there. Dr Junaid said a committee had been constituted to investigate the matter, adding strict action would be taken if any health worker was found involved in it.
