Mamond area road in disrepair

BAJAUR: The residents of Dabar area in Mamond tehsil here on Sunday expressed their concern over the prolonged delay in launch of rehabilitation work on Mataka-Dabar road, which had been in bad shape since 2010.

They warned to take to the streets if work on the road was not started by end of this month.

Talking to this correspondent, the residents said that three kilometres Mataka-Dabar road, which connected several hilly areas with rest of Mamond tehsil, had been in bad condition for the past 11 years.

They said the road built in 1980 was badly damaged by flash flood in 2010.

Yousaf Khan, a resident of Mataka locality, said that deep ditches throughout the road caused great inconvenience to thousands of its users.

The residents recalled that then local administration had promised with them weeks after the flood that the road would be repaired within a month.

Said Mohammad, a newly-elected councillor of Dabar village, said a team of officials of the administration and the highway department had visited the locality after the flood and announced to launch the rehabilitation work within weeks, but to no avail.

He said that PTI MNA Gul Zafar Khan had also promised with them to renovate the road after winning the elections in 2018, but no action was taken afterwards.

The residents said a similar commitment was also made by JI MPA Sirajuddin Khan.

woman ELECTROCUTED: A woman was electrocuted in the hilly Laghari area of Mamond tehsil here on Sunday.

The residents identified the woman as Waheeda Bibi, 18, daughter of Haji Bazwan. They said that she was placing clothes on a wall of her home when she accidentally touched the power line passing nearby.

The woman was seriously wounded in the incident and died on way to hospital.
