RAWALPINDI: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a man on the charge of murdering his 13-year-old niece in Sadiqabad two months ago.

The police said the murder weapon has also been recovered from the suspect.

Hafizullah, a resident of Kuri Road, had registered a first information report (FIR) in the Sadiqabad police station on October 17, 2021, about the murder of his daughter. According to the FIR, the complainant was in a market when his brother Attaullah informed him that his daughter Raheeba, 13, had been shot and injured by an unidentified person and was being shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital. When the father reached the hospital, he was informed that his daughter had died.

After the police initiated an investigation into the murder case, it emerged that the girl had been engaged with the son of the complainant’s another brother against her will as she wanted to marry a boy of her choice.

As the police investigated the family members and obtained their phone call data, it emerged that Attaullah was involved in the murder.

During the investigation, Attaullah confessed to murdering his niece because he suspected that she might elope with the boy she wanted to marry, said the police.

City Police Officer (CPO) Sajid Kiani appreciated the Sadiqabad police for tracking down the suspected murderer and directed it to submit the challan of the case to the court for legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, police recovered the body of a newborn baby girl from a nullah in Dhoke Elahi Baksh in the Waris Khan police limits on Thursday.

The body was shifted to the DHQ hospital by Rescue 1122. Police have launched a search for those who threw the body into the nullah.
