LAHORE: The district administration is set to launch a pilot project of constructing a one-kilometre patch of road in the city in which plastic material will also be used.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Umer Sher Chattha chaired a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the usage of plastic material for the construction of roads.

The district administration invited expert Dr Waqas Cheema from Islamabad to give a briefing about constructing roads from plastic.

Mr Cheema said eight types of plastic could be used to construct roads.

He said under the project, plastic would be first cleaned and dried and later it would be turned into powder.

He said the plastic powder would be mixed with the charcoal and would be used as material in the construction of roads.

He said five-ton plastic could be used to develop the road.

Only five per cent of plastic and 95 per cent of charcoal would be used to develop material to construct roads.The DC also ordered to establish Ehsaas Stalls outside the 13 shelter homes in the city and would distribute warm clothes among the needy people.
