GILGIT: The local administration has decided to ban all sorts of activities which cause environmental pollution to make Gilgit a clean and green city.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Gilgit deputy commissioner Usama Majid Cheema here on Tuesday, according to a press release.

The meeting decided that people would have to obtain no objection certificates before starting any construction activity in the town. It also decided to relocate stone crushing plants from the populated areas.

The district administration also imposed ban on construction of markets and plazas in the municipal limits of Gilgit.

The meeting was informed that 500 show-cause notices had been issued to people involved in illegal constructions.

After the meeting, deputy commissioner Majid Cheema told Dawn that all possible measures were being taken in collaboration with the relevant departments to make Gilgit a clean and green city.
