KARACHI: Anti-polio drive begins

KARACHI, Nov 20: Three-day anti-polio campaign will begin on Nov 21 for vaccination of 2.15 million children of below five years to protect them from crippling disease and make the province free of polio.

Sindh Health Minister Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani was informed about salient features of the campaign at a briefing here on Saturday.

EPI Project Director Dr Khadim Hussain Lakhair assured the minister that polio vaccination teams would successfully complete the task. He was informed that health department had formed 4,815 mobile teams, 505 fixed points and 219 mobile health units, which would carry out polio vaccination in their respective jurisdiction. Their performance will be monitored by 201 supervisors along with 1,053 area in charges.

Health minister appealed to the parents to cooperate with the visiting teams to make the anti-polio campaign a complete success.

EDO Health Dr Khalid Ali Shaikh said that the campaign would be inaugurated on Nov 21 at Children’s Hospital, Shadman Town, North Karachi, with administration of polio drops by the minister. —APP
