PROVINCIAL STATUS

Published November 23, 2021

PROVINCIAL STATUS: This is with reference to the letter ‘Time to give GB its due status’ (Nov 6), which rightly highlighted the critical issue, but merely a provisional provincial status is not enough. The residents of Gilgit-Baltistan want complete transfer of all powers in line with the 18th Amendment. The government should resolve the chronic issue, or it will be no different from its predecessors. GB, as a province, will stand to get its due share in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

LEARNING TO BE COURAGEOUS: Aristotle rightly called courage the mother of all virtues. It gives individuals the power to turn their dreams into reality. Ali Nawaz, a student hailing from Umrrkot, is a living example of what courage can do. His physical disability did not deter him from aspiring to have university education. He just does not believe in giving up under any circumstances. We all should learn from him.

SINDH CRISIS: The province of Sindh has been facing multiple political and social issues over the decades without any end being in sight. This is because of the lack of a proper education system that has failed to free people from the trap of slavery, illiteracy and poverty. Politicians and feudals do everything to prolong their luxuries. It is time we got rid of them.

PLAYING CONDITIONS: The International Cricket Council (ICC) should ensure fair playing conditions for the contesting sides at least in a major tournament, such as the recently-concluded T20 World Cup. When winning the toss starts getting equated with winning the match, one should know that there is a problem. Teams bowling first had a clear advantage across the World Cup. Winning while batting first was an uphill task. It was like the dice was already loaded against such teams. This was unfair to the teams, the game and, indeed, to the spectators.
